Inmates accused in jail escape attempt used electronic tablets to attack deputy

A deputy was injured on Sunday after three inmates attempted to escape the Payette County Jail.

The sheriff's office says the inmates attempted to escape at 12:17 a.m. on Sunday.

The incident is under investigation, but police believe the suspects, John Lott, 26, of New Plymouth, Mason Hughes, 21, of Parma and Christopher Eversole, 32, of Weiser, used electronic tablets to attack a deputy that opened up a cell and hit the jailer on the head. The deputy suffered substantial injuries but is overall OK.

The suspects were previously being held on felony charges ranging from grand theft to drug offenses.

In 2014, an inmate made a much publicized escape at the Payette County Jail by climbing over the fence and ended up spending time in Mexico before he was eventually taken into custody.

The inmates now faces charges of attempted escape and assault on a police officer.
